Porex enabled the the rapid production of fiber components from a range of staple (cut) bi-component and specialty fiber materials. These bi-component fibers are composed of a core and an outer sheath. PET/PE (Polyester/Polyethylene), PET/PET, PP/PET, and HDPE/PET fibers constitute the majority of Porex's current production. These formulations coupled with our material and manufacturing technologies for non-continuous staple fiber opened the door to numerous material blends and fiber combinations to satisfy a wide range of product requirements for the medical, industrial and consumer markets.
Bi-component PET fibers, for example, can now be easily blended with hydrophilic fibers to enhance wick rate and fiber surface area. PP/PE bi-component fibers can be blended with various structural fibers for added strength and rigidity. Our fiber pore size (based on Mercury Intrusion data) ranges from 10 to 250 micron with a 25% to 94% pore volume range (a function of fiber diameter and density). The density range for our fiber is 12g/cubic cm to 0.6g/cubic cm.
